How much water do you drink a day? Some people poof at the idea that we need to drink ½ of our weight in ounces of water a day. Others follow this rule religiously by drinking that many ounces or more. Why is water thought to be beneficial?
Here are some interesting facts about the water we drink.
Did you know that our body is about 70% water? That makes me realize that water is more important than I thought, and the kind of water I drink should be the best water available. Many people drink bottled water and think it is the very best water they can put into their bodies. I have read that many kinds of bottled water are no better than our tap water. Many people use filters on their tap water faucets for cleaner and better tasting water. And then there are those who believe that ionized watermakes our ph balance alkaline instead of acid and think that ionized water is the best for your health.
Take a look at these startling facts and statistics:
• 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.
• 37% of North Americans have suppressed their thirst mechanism to the point that it is often misinterpreted for hunger.
• Even mild dehydration can slow down one's metabolic rate by as much as 3%.
• A University of Washington study, found that nearly all participating dieters were able to deter their
midnight hunger pangs by just drinking a glass of water.
• The No. 1 trigger of daytime fatigue is lack of water.
• Preliminary research has indicated that drinking 8-10 glasses of water each day could improve back and joint pain for up to 80% of suffers.
• A mere 2% drop in body water can negatively affect short-term memory and the ability to concentrate.
• Drinking five glasses of water each day can decrease the risk of breast cancer by as much as 79%, bladder cancer by 50%, colon cancer by 45%, and deadly heart attack by 41%.
When we get use to the water we drink we don't notice that our water may contain more chlorine than is good for us. Well water should be tested at regular intervals as it can contain chemicals or pesticides from running into the well, contaminating the water. Bottled water can be high in acidity.
There are those who believe that the best water they can drink isalkaline water which gives the proper PH alkalinity balance so when our bodies have the proper ph balance they will have a higher immunity to disease. They also agree that when we drink alkaline water we will be able to avoid disease, lose weight and be all around more healthy.
The water you drink can be changed to the proper PH alkalinity. Some people add baking soda to their water to do this, however I would get professional directions before doing this. Others use an ionizer to do this for them. I first drank ionized water in a restaurant that carried Healthy Water. Alkaline water is very delicious and very refreshing. Which ever water one decides is best to drink, the most important thing to keep in mind is that our bodies need us to drink water not only to be healthy but to stay alive.
