This Acai Berry fruit has gained much popularity in the recent months. The acai berry comes from the Acai palm tree. The Acai Palm tree is cultivated for their fruit and superior hearts of palm. Eight different species are grown in Central and South America. They grow mainly in the swamps and floodplains. The Acai palms grow tall and very slender and have long leaves.
The fruit is small and has a large seed which is 80% of the berry. It grows in clumps or clusters much as grapes. The color of the fruit is deep purple or green depending on where it is grown and how ripe it is when harvested. Two crops are produced each year.
The juice and pulp are used along with other fruit juices and the pulp is also used in drinks and deserts. Recently it has become popular and is used as a dietary supplement, produced in many different forms. The acai fruit is often used with other juices as well.
There are many claims that are made for the different things that the acai berry is credited for, however according to “ABC News correspondent Susan Donaldson, these products have not been evaluated (in the United States) by the FDA, and their efficacy is questionable”. So no claims should be made as a cure for any disease. Testimonies may be given as to what Acai has been used for and has helped the disease or problem. This is true for any supplement.
Some of the marketers of these products make claims that açaí provides increased energy levels, improved sexual performance, improved digestion, detoxification, high fiber content, high antioxidant content, improved skin appearance, improved heart health, improved sleep, and reduction of cholesterol levels. More dubious claims include reversal of diabetes and other chronic illnesses, as well as expanding size of the penis and increasing men's sexual virility and sexual attractiveness to women. Acai is most commonly marketed as a weight loss product, for which Oprah says she has found it helpful.
The Acai berry juice is included in the content of TriVita’s “NutraFruit”, as one of the exotic fruits that make up this delicious drink. TriVita makes no claims or cures on this or other of their products, but does provide information and testimonies about each of their products.
To your good health,
